Our IT Division Manager, Chris Marshall tells us about his hands-on leadership style, how Evolve helps organisations make their data work harder, and the guiding principles that shape his approach to both technology and teamwork.

Unlocking the power of data
At Evolve, I’m lucky to be part of a team that helps organisations unlock the power of their data. We don’t just deliver solutions; we help teams see results. From building dashboards that clarify utilisation, to connecting systems for seamless workflows, we make it easy for clients to access the insights and efficiencies they need - often through a single point of entry.
Alongside these advanced capabilities, we offer trusted Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) services, comprehensive IT support, and deep Microsoft Dynamics expertise. This means businesses, whether start-ups, mid-sized companies, or large enterprises, can streamline operations, make smarter decisions, and innovate with confidence.
How we define Evolve
If I had to sum up Evolve in one sentence, it would be this: we help organisations make their data work for them.
Our approach combines technical excellence with practical guidance, ensuring that every solution is tailored, reliable, and aligned with each organisation’s goals.
From optimising workflows to providing ongoing support, we empower teams to focus on growth while we take care of the technology that makes it possible.
My management style
Whenever possible, I take a collaborative approach to leadership. I like to "get my hands wet" and involve myself directly in the technical challenges, but recognise that fostering the experience, wisdom, and strengths of my whole team really makes the difference in service delivery
It helps bring out the best in my colleagues, fosters mutual respect, encourages honesty about capability, and makes coming to work enjoyable rather than intimidating.
Overcoming workplace challenges
I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of autonomy in my work, especially here at Evolve. We have a highly skilled team, and like any organisation, we feel the impact of change.
What sets us apart is how we respond – with openness, collaboration, and a shared commitment to moving forward together.
The best advice I’ve ever received
It’s less advice and more a principle I try to live by: Rotary International’s Four-Way Test. I ask myself these questions in everything I do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Applying this framework has guided my decisions, both in business and in life.
Looking ahead
In a world where technology evolves rapidly and data volumes grow exponentially; success isn’t just about having the right tools - it’s about having the right mindset.
By combining technical excellence with a people-first approach, and providing solutions that truly make data work for people, we ensure innovation never loses sight of collaboration and integrity.
For me, leadership is about empowering others, staying curious, and never shying away from rolling up my sleeves. When teams work openly, trust one another, and stay grounded in shared principles, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.
That’s how we make data work harder - together.
